Starbucks’ Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake

This cake is actually good but I find it too sweet. I ordered it together with a hot green tea latte. I bet it goes well together with coffee.

Well, I can’t drink coffee because of my gastric problem. Too bad.

I cannot give a detailed review for this piece. I wasn’t really paying attention to each bite because I was playing the addictive game Candy Crush Saga.

It has the right amount of chocolate and peanut butter taste. Not like one is “over powering” the other. The chocolate flavor is not too sweet, just right. But the caramel on top is just too much.

I’d probably buy this again to try it together with coffee. Not so sure when though.

Ovaltine Sandwich Cookies

I don’t know how long these Ovaltine cookies have been in the market but I just saw it the other week. Because I love eating chocolate powder, just the powder – be it Milo or Ovaltine, I decided to try this one. I was hoping the filling would taste just like the Ovaltine drink powder. And I was right!

There’s actually nothing special about the taste or how it was made. It’s just plain Ovaltine sandwich cookies but I love it. It’s not too sweet, just right. It doesn’t crumble easily so it’s not messy to eat. Not too hard but just the right crispness for a sandwich cookie.

As for the price, it’s actually cheap. One box has 12 packets. And each packet contains 3 pcs.

I brought it to the office so I’d always have something to munch while I’m bored.

Try it!

Walnut Carrot Cake

Posted by on Sep 27, 2012 in Food | 0 comments

I had a dinner with friends a couple of weeks ago at The Soup Spoon in Vivocity. The soup was delish but I wasn’t able to take a photo coz I was too hungry. All I wanted to do as soon as I have the food in front of me was to eat.

Anyway, after a bowl of soup and a piece of their pita wrap, we each ordered a piece of cake for dessert. And yes, I have a big appetite.

I ordered a slice of their walnut carrot cake. It wasn’t very sweet. It has the right amount of walnut. It didn’t overpower the taste of the carrot cake itself. I just find it too fluffy and dry for a carrot cake. And there’s nothing really special about it. I’d rate it 2.5 out of 5.

I was with good friends who I consider as my family here in Singapore. I enjoyed their company and it was more than enough for me to forget how my entire dinner tasted like that night.

Paella Negra

My friend wanted to celebrate last Friday because she wasn’t retrenched and asked me out for dinner at Orchard. We cannot decide where to eat because of the many choices and we were not really craving for anything that time. Till she remembered this restaurant where she ate a delicious paella.

Every time I hear or see the dish paella, I always associate it with seafood, clam shells, mussels, etc. I cannot remember if I have eaten a paella before but the moment she mentioned it, I suddenly had a craving.

She brought me to a restaurant named Medz. Basically they serve Mediterranean dishes. The queue was quite long and the place was jam packed. There were a lot of dishes to choose from, Greek to Italian to Turkish to Spanish. But since I wanted Paella and she recommended it, we went straight to the “Spanish section.”

I didn’t know that there are actually different types of Paella. There’s seafood, chicken, pork belly, octopus, lamb, and 2 more that I cannot remember anymore. She suggested I try the Octopus Paella. I was hesitant at first coz I was thinking that the octopus might not be well cooked or might be too chewy. I almost chose the chicken one coz it seems like the safest choice. After 20 mins of thinking, I took the risk and ordered Octopus Paella. When they handed me the stub, it says, Paella Negra. I was intrigued. “So this is Paella Negra,” I thought.

Jen was right. It was yummy!! Tasteful yet the flavor is not too strong. Not salty and oily as well. It has some crispy pork belly which compliments the octopus/ink taste. As expected, the octopus was chewy but just right. Well, I love it. I’d definitely order it again.

We ended the meal with a strawberry crepe that was very yummy too.

It was a night of food, and stories about work and colleagues and skin care. A girls night out!

Cake and Coffee Date

Posted by on Apr 1, 2012 in Food | 1 comment

It’s a cake day with 2 of my rusher friends, Marco and Reya. Because we live/work in the west, we decided to eat at Bakerzin, Jurong Point.

I ordered cappuccino and Coeur Noir for cake. I don’t really know how to pronounce this. But it looks yummy. It’s made of layers of dark chocolate mousse and sacher sponge, with brandy cherries and hazelnut darquoise at the base.

I love dark chocolate, cherries, and any alcohol added to food.

It was heavenly delicious yet sinful. It wasn’t too sweet. The moist and softness is just right. I got 3 brandy cherries, just enough. And I like how they used pistachio nuts as leaves to those white chocolate flowers on top.

And amazingly, I was able to drink my coffee without ruining the froth design. The secret, stir only at the bottom and drink on the same spot of the cup until you finish it.

Aside from enjoying the cake, the stories and chat made the evening fun and relaxing.

2012 Birthday Celebration

Posted by on Mar 26, 2012 in Food, From The Heart | 0 comments

It’s that time of the year again. Another year added to my age. Last year, I’ve been complaining almost the whole year for not receiving any piece of cake for my birthday. This year, someone very dear to me has made my birthday a very memorable one.

BBQ

Me, taking a photo of the 2012 birthday cake from Morgan.

He’s been telling me that he’s going to throw a BBQ for my birthday. I didn’t really believe at first coz I have a feeling that he will forget about it again just like last year (he didn’t know it was my birthday after spending almost the whole day with me). But since he kept on saying that he’s going to buy me a cake, I was afraid he’s really going to do the BBQ thingy.

Oreo Cheesecake from Bakerzin

And today, just as he said. He threw a BBQ party for my birthday and actually, for my colleague, Christina’s, farewell party as well. I’m really touched that he and our workers made effort to prepare for this one. I really appreciate it.

Christina, farewell.

Gifts from Christina

Wishing…

He even bought donuts from J. Co which I’ve been craving for quite a while now.

With our Burmese Workers and with my boss, Morgan.

You guys don’t have any idea how important this one is for me especially now that I’m going through something depressing. If only I could hug you all one by one.

Again, thank you.
